A Dream Family Christmas Photoshoot Editorial Portraits by Irina Lis Costanzo

Some of the best things on my phone are things I will never be able to share publicly.

There are photographs and videos from private shoots that I absolutely love, but they belong to my clients. So they stay on my phone, unseen by the internet.

One of my favourite videos was sent to me by a client after a family Christmas shoot.

It was a family of six: two parents and four children, between 5 and 11 years old.

We spent the whole day shooting, and together with my team I wanted to create an atmosphere where the children could have fun, play, and actually enjoy the experience.

The next day, their mother sent me a little video she had filmed on her phone.

Three of the younger children were running around the house in their pyjamas, playing photographer and models. The oldest girl was the photographer. The twin boys were the models.

They were doing their little “click click”, posing, giving each other directions, organising the shoot exactly as they had seen us do it the day before.

I watched that video and it made me incredibly happy. Children are such honest witnesses. They don’t perform happiness for you.

Seeing them spontaneously recreate the experience told me that they had genuinely enjoyed that day.

And that gave me a kind of satisfaction that a beautiful final image alone cannot give me.

Because somewhere inside that family, that day had become a memory they were already playing with.

And honestly, I think this is one of the most beautiful things photography can give you.

The photographs will stay with them, and so will the feeling they had while making them.

This is the spirit I bring to Christmas family sessions. Not a quick holiday mini-shoot with props and matching outfits, but a private, unhurried day where the family can actually play, interact, and feel at ease, while I produce the photographs with the same editorial craft I use for magazine covers and luxury campaigns.
